BCCGE praises new
B.C. Clean Energy Act

“The Clean Energy Act provides a clear policy basis
for moving forward with green energy export opportunities
and we like what we see.”

Vancouver, B.C. — The newly unveiled B.C. Clean Energy Act is being praised by B.C. Citizens for Green Energy (BCCGE) for bringing regulatory certainty and creating a solid foundation for moving B.C.’s clean energy and green energy export sectors forward.

However, much work still needs to be done to translate B.C.’s unparalleled green energy opportunities, and the vision embodied in the new Act, into reality.  So says BCCGE co-spokesperson Bruce Sanderson who has been reviewing the new legislation along with other members of the green energy citizen’s group.

“The Clean Energy Act brings important regulatory certainty for all sectors of the B.C. economy—energy producers and consumers alike,” said Sanderson.  “The Act also provides a clear policy basis for moving forward with green energy export opportunities and we like what we see.”

Sanderson says the Clean Energy Act, and last week’s Site C announcement, have raised the public’s level of awareness around energy issues in B.C. and the potential benefits that B.C.’s immense untapped potential for generating renewable green energy represent for the people of the province.

B.C.’s immense untapped potential for generating renewable green energy, and the substantial revenue that could be generated for the people of B.C. through an effective export policy, were the subject of BCCGE’s recently-released research report entitled “A Triple Legacy for Future Generations: British Columbia’s Potential as a Renewable Green Energy Powerhouse.”

The BCCGE Triple Legacy report showed that unlocking the province’s green energy resources could potentially generate billions of dollars in public revenues for the citizens of British Columbia—potentially enough to wipe out the province’s debt and eventually even replace the revenue now raised through the provincial sales tax (PST).

Like many others, BCCGE is reviewing all aspects of the new legislation and intends to be fully engaged in the vigorous discussion the new Act will undoubtedly generate; and in fact, has already generated.

Copies of the BCCGE research report are available on the B.C. Citizens for Green Energy website at www.greenenergybc.ca or by clicking here.
